On Thursday, September 24, 2009, the House of Delegates convened at the AMTA National Convention in Orlando, FLA.

On the floor of the House of Delegates, a motion is being debated. On the "con" side (to the right) Maureen Stott and Carol Radzunas stand in line waiting to voice their opinions.

Five delegates and five alternates from our CT Chapter were there. Five position statements and two recommendations were debated using Parliamentary procedure. What an amazing process! This is our organization's democracy at its best. Strict rules were enforced regarding the length of time a topic could be debated, the correct use of motions, and the voting procedure which was done by individual machines at our seats. Alternate delegates sat behind a roped off area and were not allowed on the floor. The only time that our delegates met with the alternates was when a caucus was ruled, and the delegates then went to the back of the room and conferred with the alternates. It was so interesting and rewarding to be a part of this process!

  • Regarding the purpose of the President's Council submitted by the AMTA Indiana Chapter [.pdf] Not approved

  Research, Education and Practice

Announcing the International Journal of Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork: Research, Education, & Practice
The Massage Therapy Foundation is pleased to announce the launch of its new electronic journal, the International Journal of Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork: Research, Education, & Practice (IJTMB).
The IJTMB is the first peer-reviewed scientific journal for the therapeutic massage and bodywork profession, and is available free of subscription fees and contributing author charges. It's an indispensable resource for members of the massage and bodywork profession as well as for related health-care professionals.

The IJTMB takes an open access approach to scholarly publishing, thereby allowing reader access to articles online. This approach provides for the dissemination of scientific findings not only to professionals in the massage and bodywork field, but also to colleagues in associated disciplines and professions.
Currently, there are three principal sections planned for the IJTMB:
  • Research – An opportunity for the dissemination of original quantitative, qualitative, and integrative research papers.
  • Education – A forum for massage and bodywork educators on topics such as curriculum development, instructional design/delivery, instructional technology, distance learning, and testing/evaluative procedures.
  • Practice – A venue for practitioners to stay up-to-date on issues such as planning, marketing, managing and evaluating a successful practice; incorporation of new scientific findings and methods into clinical practice; new clinical approaches to prevention and treatment of specific health conditions; and ethical issues.
The inaugural issue of the IJTMB is scheduled for publication in August 2008, with a subsequent issue planned for November. Beginning in 2009, the journal’s quarterly issues will appear in March, June, September and December. The IJTMB is available at http://journals.sfu.ca/ijtmb.
