ARTHRITIS FOUNDATION WALK A MAJOR SUCCESS!
The Community Service Massage Team’s (CSMT) new charity partnership with the Arthritis Foundation is a booming success, starting with a wonderful kick-off at our April chapter meeting where Jaime Seltzer, the Chief Development Officer, introduced us to their work and mission to help those who suffer from the various forms of arthritis. This is including not just osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, but also Lyme Disease, gout, lupus, fibromyalgia, and juvenile arthritis.
The Arthritis Foundation’s motto of “Let’s Keep Moving” is certainly appropriate to the energy and excitement that the first event for the new partnership in May. This event kicked off the season with our new walk coordinator Julie Olson-Raymond at the helm at St. Joseph College in West Hartford. The weather cooperated and with over 400 participants for the walk, ten of our therapists gave 89 massages! , The next day saw Kelley Gleason, also a new coordinator, lead a team of six therapists in giving chair massage to 61 walkers and support staff in Fairfield, despite the chilly rain.
Though not until after this edition goes to press, our third walk in New Haven, May 9th will see Kelley Gleason and a third new coordinator, Jen Calvo, leading ten therapists for the expected crowd of around 300 walkers.
We are pleased not only by the wonderful performance of these new walk coordinators, but by the fact that we had new volunteers at each walk as well! Final numbers will follow, but we feel that the best is yet to come with the Mystic Walk on September 27th, which is already booking therapists under the leadership of Deby Van Ohlen.
CT “MOM” A MAJOR HIT!
For a second year in a row Carol Radzunas has lead an amazing weekend of marathon massage at the Mission of Mercy (MOM) in New Haven, April 17 and 18. Thirteen therapists (some for both days) did 266 chair massage for the dentists and dental assistants who offeried free dental care to the public.
This is a wonderful event to support those who are volunteering their time as well, which makes this a unique opportunity for the CSMT to bring our talents and skills out to the greater community.
LOOKING TO HELP OUT?
The CSMT is always interested in adding to our list of wonderful, active therapists. Our new partnership with the Arthritis Foundation and on-going participation at the CT Mission of Mercy (April) and the Women’s Health Expo (September), offer numerous dates, events, and times to choose from.
We offer chair massage to the public as an opportunity to promote both massage and your business. Earn your “blue shirt” by attending three events within the calendar year and/or attending the CSMT training. If you would like information concerning volunteering, walking in September, or donation of funds, please email Nikki Arel at
charity@amtactchapter.org. We look forward to seeing you soon!
