Serving as the CT Chapter President has been a fantastic experience primarily because of the response of our members. I consider myself more of a facilitator than a leader. Some one who is out there taking ideas and motivating people to move in a direction that will benefit the individual as well as the group. I believe we are doing this in CT. We are taking some simple ideas and turning them into programs and practices that are fun, that promote massage therapy and our therapists and that give back to our community. This is what I think the Chapter President position is all about. Helping us establish a direction and then hanging on for the fun filled ride!

I am honored to be part of the AMTA Connecticut Chapter's Board of Directors. I have served on the Sports team for 6 or 7 Years, and have been 2nd Vice President for 3 years. The Connecticut Chapter is well known throughout all of the chapters as a motivated and well organized chapter. It just feels good to be able to go to CVOP, the New England Regionals, or the National Conference and say that I am from the Connecticut Chapter. When I inform volunteers from the other chapters about what our chapter does for our members, the look on their face is enough to let me know why I am on the Board of Directors. It is not just one reason or because of just one person why I serve on the board. It is the collective of all of the Board members, Past and Present. It is because we, as a chapter, need to keep the energy moving forward. Keep the message of HOPE alive and keep the chapter motivated. Connecticut ROCKS!! Let's keep Rockin'

AMTA Member since October 1984
I attended my first National Convention in New York in 1985. I was inspired by our early leaders in the profession. I became a third Vice President of public relations in 1986 created our first Chapter brochure and shirts. (Our board of directors always talked about reaching our members and educating the public.) This theme has carried on for the twenty-something years that I’ve been on the board. In 1987 we needed a treasurer, so I stepped up to the plate and never left. With $300.00 in our treasury and a very messed up check book, I went to work selling our brochures and shirts. Shirley Cooper was a great leader speaking at CCMT and recruiting people to get involved. I stayed involved because of Shirley and all the wonderful people I have met in this profession.

Membership Director

As Membership Director I enjoy meeting new people and get an opportunity to get to know members. In addition serving on the Board has allowed me to be a more active member in the Connecticut chapter of AMTA.
I would like to see our members become more active in AMTA so we can grow and move toward a greater tomorrow just knowing that we already stand head and shoulders above the rest.
We, as members, can't just stand by and watch because we are only as good as we make it. There are too many facets in our Chapter to have a few members carry the brunt of the workload if we are to keep growing. Imagine what TWO THOUSAND FORTY MEMBERS could accomplish if we all contributed just a little! WOW
In terms of Membership we have spots on our welcoming committee, ambassador program or going to the schools to talk to students and encourage enrollment and participations. So I'd love to hear from you. Contact me at membershipdirector@amtactchapter.org to sign aboard
Education Director
• Chaleen Bloethe-Abely
education@amtactchapter.org
I joined the CT Chapter AMTA in 1988. I began helping with the educational trainings because I was asked to help! My goal as education director was to provide quality educational trainings for free & subsidize the day long trainings. In 1998 we took the trainings to a new level and became a NCBTMB approved provider. This gave all CT Chapter AMTA members the opportunity to use all the continuing education credits earned by attending out courses toward re-certification.
My future goals include offering self-care classes, techniques which can be integrated immediately, and any techniques that gets the therapist to ‘work smarter not harder’!
I would like to continue to offer 6 & 8 hour classes in the future and depend on member participation. All member suggestions are appreciated too. The best classes have been member referrals, so keep those ideas coming.

I have been a licensed massage therapist for 14 years. In my work as a massage therapist and as website designer for a number of websites, I have a great appreciation for the power of communicating to the wider world through the internet. People rely on email and the internet to not only provide them with information, but to stay connected to others as well. I am so excited to be a part of the AMTA CT Chapter as we grow together as massage therapists, and as we communicate the value of massage to the wider world.

My involvement with the planning committee for the NERC is simple. I am a big believer in the importance of providing good quality continuing education at a fair price. We have the opportunity year in and year out to bring to you the biggest names and most up to date information in the field of massage therapy. Also, many of us work alone and the ability to network with so many of our peers and to ahve a little fun doing it makes all the hard work very worthwhile.
Newsletter Editor

I have been a licensed massage therapist for two years and have been involved in the AMTA CT Chapter since I was a student. At my first Chapter meeting, I didn't know what to expect (I had never been in a room with so many Massage Therapists!). I quickly found myself very impressed with the professionalism of the meeting and surprised at how much FUN we were having! Those energies are why I chose to serve in the Chapter. As Editor of the Chapter newsletter I have been able to be a part of many events, the Chapter's tremendous growth and I have been given the opportunity to meet members of other chapters. I have seen many changes in our Chapter, and I can say without reservation that we have a LOT to be proud of! Our growth and good works seem limitless and I look forward to being an active part of them for years to come!
Ambassador Coordinator
• Maureen Stott
ambassador@amtactchapter.org
The Ambassador committee began as a way to welcome each and every new member in a personal way. Not a mass produced email nor snail mail, but with a personal phone call to let the new member know that we value their membership and that they are part of a great chapter that really cares about their members. The Ambassadors provide support and encourage members to take full advantage of their membership by being an active part of the chapter. This phone call is also a chance for members to start networking with other massage therapists in their area.
After stepping down as Membership Director, I decided to assume the role of Ambassador Coordinator because this is an important aspect of membership for me and I did not want to see the program end. The Coordinator’s task to each month take the list of new members and figure out which Ambassadors live in the geographical area. The Ambassador then calls up to four new members in their area that are assigned to them.
I serve on this committee because this is a wonderful chapter and I want to be a part of it. I want to give back and encourage members to become involved. Each member has something to contribute to the whole. I hope that this call will encourage people to feel comfortable enough to come to the meetings, be part of the chapter and its activities and contribute in whatever way they are most comfortable.
